Seen through the Eyes of Love

Over the past couple of years there has been a movement encouraging Self-Love.  But what is Self-Love truly and how do we display love to ourselves?

The way that I would help you to understand self-love is to first help you to see yourself through pure eyes of Love.  Those same eyes that a mother would look down upon her newborn baby with, that radiates with pure unconditional love. 

Eyes that speak “You Are Loved.  I Love You.

Now, I would like for you to take a good look at yourself in the mirror.  Do you see yourself through the eyes of Love?

I believe what stops us from loving and seeing ourselves through the eyes of love, is that we live out our lives not accepting ourselves. We live our lives from a place of guilt, shame and/or comparison.

If we are constantly comparing ourselves to others and living in a place of guilt and shame, we can’t see how amazing we truly are.

Every time we try to take a positive step forward in life, we subconsciously take two steps backwards in our lives. Why? Because we are not living and building our lives from a place of Love. The only thing that comes from building a life from a place of guilt and shame is more guilt and shame. I know this pattern oh so well, a little too well if you ask me.

For years, I lived out my life in guilt, shame and constantly comparing myself to others.  I hated myself for not meeting the expectations that I had on myself as a woman, as a wife, as a mother and for not living up to the expectations that I believed that others had of me.  Those feelings took me very low eight years ago into a deep depression and thoughts of suicide.

How could I accept myself?  I was paralyzed with guilt, until I decided to learn what it truly means to love and accept myself.

We must accept ourselves for who we truly are.  Self-Acceptance is where your true Self-Love journey begins.

Through my self-love journey eight years ago, I sought out tools that has helped me with my self-acceptance, mental health, self-care and overall well-being.  Some of the tools that has helped me greatly on my journey is speaking out positive affirmations, praying, journaling, meditating, seeing a therapist, practicing gratitude, dancing, singing, writing, working out, going outside in nature, spending time with my loved ones, being an encouragement or help to others, reading an uplifting book or magazine (I absolutely love the book The Four Agreements), listening to inspirational podcasts, giving my body and mind rest, taking vitamins and eating foods that boost my mood.

Being Consistent with my tools is KEY.

I am constantly choosing to build my life with Love and not with the expectations of others.  I am constantly choosing to show myself grace and to be kind to myself.  I am constantly choosing to release the guilt and shame and when guilt and shame arises again in my life, I release it again.

So, what is Self-Love?

1.  Self-love is Accepting who you truly are and being unapologetically you.

2.  Self-Love is Acknowledging your needs are important and not being ashamed to reach out and ask for help.

3.  Self-love is Giving yourself Permission to rest, heal, grow and take time for yourself.

4.  Self-love is Believing in yourself and never giving up on you.

5.  Self-love is Showing yourself grace and being kind to yourself.

6.  Self-love is Seeing your value, beauty and confidently shining bright with all your love and light. 

7.  Self-love is Protecting your peace and energy, so you create healthy boundaries for your life.

8.  Self-love is “Letting Go” of the past, guilt, shame and anything that’s a disservice or hinderance to you.

9.  Self-love is Choosing your Joy and Bliss by doing the things that brings you joy and surrounding yourself with people who uplifts your spirit.

10.  Self-love is Celebrating your life and how far you have come on your journey.

11.  Self-love is Awakening your greatness and tapping into your full power and potential.

12.  Self-love is Knowing that You deserve LOVE and that You Matter Always.
