Choosing to Live

Today Gets to Be Easy

Some days, life asks a lot of us.  Other days, we simply wake up and realize that our capacity is different than it was yesterday.

Maybe we’re navigating stress, emotional heaviness, mental health challenges, physical exhaustion, or simply the everyday demands of being human. Whatever the reason, there are days when we need to give ourselves permission to do things differently.

For me, embracing ease is a day-to-day practice.

It means giving myself permission to slow down, listen to what I need, honor my capacity, and stop measuring my worth by how much I accomplish.

It means recognizing that I don’t have to push through simply because I can. It’s okay to rest, do less, and simply say, “I need easy.”

And there is nothing wrong with that.

I wrote this affirmation poem during a time when I was experiencing Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD) symptoms, and my capacity was lower than usual. Instead of beating myself up for not having the energy to do everything that I had planned, I chose to honor what I needed and give myself permission to rest.

Sometimes, the most loving thing that we can do is to honor where we are and allow today to be exactly what it needs to be for us.

Just let it be.

So, I invite you to receive these words as a permission slip.

A reminder.

A declaration.

And perhaps, for today, a little freedom.

Today Gets to Be Easy

Today gets to be easy for me.

I don’t have to push.
I don’t have to prove.
I don’t have to hurry
just because the world is moving.

Today, I honor my capacity.

I listen when my body says,
slow down.

I listen when my spirit says,
be still.

I listen when the whispers of my heart says,

you don’t have to do it all today.

Today gets to be easy for me.

Easy doesn’t mean I’m stagnant.

Easy doesn’t mean I’m lazy.

Easy doesn’t mean I’m falling behind.

Easy means that I am no longer forcing movement when my body is asking me to rest.

Easy means that I trust that I am supported and that all is well in my world.

So, I release the pressure.
I release the urgency.
I release the guilt that tells me I

should always be doing more.

I don’t shame myself for needing rest.

I don’t apologize for embracing ease.

I honor where I am.
I honor what I need.

And today,
I choose differently.

I choose my peace.
I choose my joy.
I choose softness and rest.

I choose ease.

Because ease is not something
I have to earn.

Ease is my birthright.

And today—

Today gets to be easy for me.
