I have always been a stickler for reading expiration dates on food products at the grocery stores, but up until a year in half ago, my eyes were OPENED to checking the labels on just about everything that I purchase now.
One day, I came across a warning sign on a pair of hand weights that I had purchased at TJ Maxx and it reads:
“Warning: This product contains chemicals known to the state of California to cause cancer, or birth defects or other reproductive harm.”
What the heck!!!! I was thinking I got something that was going to help me to build my body and instead I got something that could potentially harm me. No way!!! I took it back to the store right away. Then I thought how could a manufacturer/business owner sell something to the public that could cause harm. That’s just Crazy and so inhumane!! To make $Money that’s horrible and disgusting!!!!
The hand weights also had a label on them called the California Proposition 65 Warning, which is administered by the California Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA) and is a Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act and was enacted in 1986. It’s intended to help Californians make informed decisions to protect themselves from chemicals known to cause cancer, birth defects, or other reproductive harm.
Businesses decide whether to put warning labels on their products based on their knowledge of the types of chemicals in them. With some of the businesses shipping their products with the warning labels on them all over the USA, we in other states get the same opportunity as Californians to decide if we want to purchase products with chemicals that could harm us.
With the research I did, I also found out that as a part of the law, the state is required to publish a list of chemicals that are “known to the Sate of California to cause cancer or reproductive toxicity.”
The list is updated at least once a year and now contains about 800 different chemicals. You can go to the OEHHA website for the list of chemicals http://oehha.ca.gov/prop65.html
People please read the labels and do your own research, you matter, your Life matter and your Love Ones Lives matter!!
I was going to buy some sunglasses to have going into the Summer season and I came across that warning sign again. I was going to buy some shoes for my children and came across that warning sign again. I have seen that warning sign on water bottles, handbags, even a clipboard and ect.
Just so you’re not thinking that only one particular store have products with those warning signs on them, I have seen those warning signs in many stores on non name-brand products to expensive name-brand products. Once you see a product with the warning sign you will notices them a lot easier.
This is my Biggest reason for sharing this information with you is to help you to SEE, KNOW and PROTECT you and your Loves ones from what you might be subject to and not even known it. When I was in Ross one day looking for sunglasses, my daughter and I came across at least 20 pairs of sunglasses with warning signs on them. I then asked eight people that were in Ross, including the two sells associates and the manager, if they ever noticed these warning signs and every one of them said No.
My heart is to get this word out to as many people as I can. I don’t really know how many products I may have purchased in the past that could have potentially had a warning sign on them. I just thank God for His Protection, His Wisdom and His Love!!
I pray that we do not fear but remember who our God is and do our part to protect ourselves and Love ones. Please SHARE this with your beautiful family and friends because their lives matter too.
Thank You and God bless You!!
